How to Set Up Your Red Star Tec Remote

At Red Star Tec, we believe technology should make life easier , not harder. That’s why our Red Star Tec PR-820, PR-819V, and PR-819 are all designed as plug-and-play presentation clickers. No drivers, no complicated setup , just connect and go.
This guide will walk you through how to connect a presentation clicker step by step, plus tips for Mac users and troubleshooting presentation clicker issues if you ever run into problems.
The complete setup can of course be found in the relevant manuals, but for now take a look at the setup below.

All three models are set up exactly the same way, so you can follow the same steps no matter which one you own.
Getting Started – The Easy Way
-
Insert the batteries
-
PR-820 and PR-819 need 2 × AAA batteries.
-
PR-819V needs just 1 × AAA battery.
-
Turn it on – slide the power switch to ON.
-
Plug in the USB receiver – insert it into your USB A port on your computer (PC, Mac, or laptop). If you have a USB C port, you can use a USB A to C adapter to connect to your device. The alternative is to use a USB C to USB hub ( Splitter or Multiport )
-
You’re ready to go! The remote should connect automatically — no software or drivers are required.
-
PR-820: The LED light stays solid blue and blinks when you press a button.
-
PR-819 / PR-819V: The LED only lights up when you press a button.
-
Open a presentation or document and press the forward button — you should see it work right away.
Tip: All Red Star Tec remotes have a power-saving mode. If the remote hasn’t been used for 5 minutes, just press any button to wake it up. The LED light will turn on again.
Blue LED Slowly Flashing? Here’s What It Means
If you notice the LED light slowly blinking, your remote is trying to find its USB receiver.
This can happen sometimes because our remotes use RF (radio frequency) technology — and occasional connection loss is normal in busy wireless environments.
LinkLok – Easy Reconnection (PR-820 & PR-819V)
Our PR-820 and PR-819V models include LinkLok technology, which makes it easy to reconnect your remote if it loses its link or if you buy a new receiver.
Follow these steps to re-pair your remote:

To initiate Link Lok on the PR-820 remote, first insert the batteries and make sure the remote is switched OFF. Next, press and hold the left-click button while turning the remote ON; the blue LED will flash rapidly to indicate pairing mode. Then, plug the USB receiver into your computer and wait 10–20 seconds until the remote connects. Finally, switch the remote OFF and back ON to test that it’s working correctly.

To initiate Link Lok on the PR-819V remote, first switch off the remote and insert the batteries. Press and hold the Page Down button, then plug in the USB receiver while still holding the button. Finally, check the LED light — a fast flash means the remote is paired, while a slow flash means it is not connected.
Note:-
PR-819 does not support LinkLok.
- If you purchased a replacement receiver for PR-820, follow the same steps to connect your old remote to the new receiver.
Mac Users – If Your Remote Isn’t Recognized
If you’re using a presentation clicker for Mac or a presentation remote for MacBook, most Macs will recognize it right away. But if you see a message saying your keyboard cannot be identified, follow these steps:

Quick Troubleshooting
This section will help if your presentation clicker is not working as expected:
-
Check that the batteries are inserted correctly (+/-).
-
Replace the batteries if the range seems short.
-
Try a different USB port.
-
Test the remote on another laptop or computer to isolate the issue.
-
If it fails on multiple devices, it may be the remote.
-
If it only fails on one device, make sure that device has the latest software updates.
-
Avoid zinc batteries — alkaline or rechargable batteries give the best performance.
